Keeping your Blinds Clean

Keep your blinds looking as great as they did the first time you hung them in your home. A small amount of maintenance goes a long way when it comes to looking after your window treatments and by following these simple tips you can prevent the nightmare that is the dreaded ‘deep clean’. Completing these steps once a week will ensure your blinds look better for longer.

Roller and Roman Blinds

  • Take a duster or clean cloth to remove surface dust once a week.
  • Wet a sponge with mild detergent and warm water to remove any stains, marks or stubborn dust.
  • Use a dry cloth or sponge to dry the blinds.
  • Invest in an art gum eraser to shift any remaining stains or marks – but remember not to scrub too hard otherwise the fabric could become distorted.
  • Remember never to use harsh chemicals, bleaches, solvents or alcohol based cleaning products as it will discolour and damage fabrics.

Aluminium and Ecowood Blinds

  • Place blades in the open position.
  • Raise the blind evenly and lock in place.
  • Take a duster or dry cloth over the blades.
  • Lower the blinds again, ensuring blades are still in the open position.
  • Wipe each slat individually with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
  • Dry with a clean cloth.
  • Dust blinds weekly with a dry cloth or duster to prevent build ups.

Wooden Venetian Blinds

  • Never use water or soap on your wooden blinds, the moisture will be absorbed into the wood and as a result the wood will expand, warp and crack.
  • Use a soft cloth or brush to clean each blade once a week.
  • For heavy dust, use a vacuum cleaner to help remove it.
